What are the odds that another Irma, or worse, hits the city? If some entity owns property on the river and wants to build -- imagine the flood insurance! -- then let them, but no taxpayer funds should be gifted to such projects. Also, a recent article in the national press about the efforts made by Paris, France, to reduce auto intrusion have made dramatic improvements in air quality and reduced noise pollution.

Yes, a visionary, a leader, a planner--not a facilitator or politician! Jacksonville needs a vision that we can all subscribe to, be very proud of our city, and of ourselves.

A VISION: Summary I wrote many years ago after quite a few years of research and thought:

• A Vision is about connectivity

• A Vision is an organic framework into which any project can fit—past, present, future

• A Vision is not a masterplan

• Projects are not a Vision

• A Vision connects projects

• A Vision is a community identity that connects us all

• A Vision allows us to work together to accomplish things that we otherwise couldn’t

• A Vision makes us proud to be part of our community

A Vision is first and foremost about what we think about ourselves.

I hope the City leaders will engage with a true visionary talent, as opposed to “gee, we conducted this national search and the best talent was right here in Jacksonville all along.” No disrespect to DIA head and former Councilwoman Boyer. She guided the agency with a decent outlook and understanding of the political mindset.
